bwin at a glance: who it suits

bwin is one of the longest-running names in European online sports betting. It started out in Austria in 1997 as betandwin, adopted its short name in 2006 and, after a merger with PartyGaming and a takeover by GVC in 2016, now belongs to Entain plc, the London-listed group that also runs Ladbrokes, Coral and partypoker. The core product is a sportsbook built around European football, with a casino, live dealer tables and a poker room on the same account.

It is a good match for bettors who mostly follow the big football leagues, like to adjust accumulators after placing them and live in a country where bwin holds a local licence. Casino-first players may prefer a brand that is built around its games library, and anyone who wants clearly published support hours before signing up will find bwin less forthcoming than some rivals.

Our rating

8.6/ 10

Very good: 8.6 / 10. Every operator is rated on the same five criteria and weights. The overall score is the weighted mean, rounded to one decimal. Read the method.

  • Trust & licensing30 %8.7Strict licences in the UK, Malta, Germany and France under a large listed group, held back by Entain's £17 million UK settlement in 2022 and a £585 million deferred prosecution agreement in 2023.
  • Betting markets / games range25 %8.9Tens of thousands of daily markets led by European football, with Build a Bet, Edit My Bet and Cash Out, plus casino, live casino and poker on one account.
  • Website & apps15 %8.4A well-rated sports app and a complete mobile site, but splitting sports, casino, live casino and poker into four apps adds friction.
  • Payments15 %8.5A long list of cards, e-wallets, bank transfers and local methods, although the cashier you see depends heavily on your country.

Licensing and trust

Which company you deal with depends on where you live. The international site bwin.com is offered by ElectraWorks Europe Limited, registered in Malta, under Malta Gaming Authority licence MGA/CRP/688/2019. In Great Britain, bwin is an active trading name of LC International Limited on the Gambling Commission register (account 54743), and the UK terms also cite Gibraltar remote gambling licences. Germany has its own site, bwin.de, whose operator bwin (Deutschland) Limited appears on the GGL whitelist for sports betting, virtual slot games and online poker. In France, bwin.fr is run by B.E.S. SAS with approval from the ANJ.

That is a strong set of licences, and Entain's size and stock-market listing add a layer of public scrutiny. The compliance record is not spotless, though. In August 2022 the Gambling Commission announced that Entain would pay £17 million over anti-money laundering and safer gambling failures, £14 million of it relating to the online business of LC International; the Commission's statement named Ladbrokes, Coral and Foxy Bingo rather than bwin. In December 2023 Entain also received final court approval for a £585 million deferred prosecution agreement with the Crown Prosecution Service, covering bribery-prevention failures in its former Turkish-facing business, run when the group was still called GVC Holdings.

Neither case concerns today's bwin customers directly, but both say something about the group behind the brand. We therefore place bwin just below our top trust band: the licences are first-rate, the group history is mixed.

Sportsbook and odds

bwin says its sports app carries more than 30,000 markets every day. Football leads the way, from the Premier League, Bundesliga, LaLiga and Serie A to the European club competitions, and the wider menu includes tennis, basketball, golf and, for UK customers, horse and greyhound racing. In-play betting covers a large share of these events, and the website has a media panel for following selected live events.

Where bwin stands out is bet management. Build a Bet lets you stack several outcomes from the same match into one wager, Edit My Bet allows legs to be added to or taken out of an accumulator that is already running, and Cash Out offers to close eligible bets before the final whistle. For accumulator players who like to react to what happens on the pitch, that combination is genuinely useful.

We have not tracked bwin's prices against other bookmakers over time, so we make no claim about odds competitiveness. National sites such as bwin.de work within their own regulator's rules, so the betting menu there is not identical to bwin.com, and bet types and promotions also change from country to country.

Casino, live casino and poker

Next to the sportsbook, bwin runs a casino with slots and table games, a live casino with real dealers and a long-running poker room. All of them use the same wallet, so moving from a football bet to a hand of poker does not require a second account.

The casino is a sensible extra rather than the main reason to join. Our research did not find a published game count for the international site, and bwin's own marketing puts sport first. If slots and live tables are what you mainly want, a casino-focused brand is likely to offer a deeper library and more casino-specific features.

Website and mobile apps

Where local rules permit, there are four bwin apps for iOS and Android: one each for sports, casino, live casino and poker. The sports app brings in-play betting, Build a Bet, Edit My Bet and Cash Out together and was rated 4.7 out of 5 on the UK App Store in October 2026. If you would rather not install anything, the mobile website covers the same core functions.

Having four apps is a matter of taste: each one stays focused, but players who mix sport and casino will find themselves switching between them. One housekeeping point: the UK App Store listing still names a different Entain company and licence number than bwin's current UK terms and the Gambling Commission register, so the register is the better place to confirm who runs your account.

Deposits and withdrawals

The payment list in the help centre is long. It names Visa, Mastercard and Maestro, PayPal, Skrill, NETELLER, paysafecard, Trustly, Apple Pay, Google Pay and bank transfer, plus country-specific options such as eps, Dankort or Interac. Not every method is offered everywhere, and the version of the cashier you see is set by your country and the licence that applies to it.

In Great Britain, credit cards cannot be used for gambling, so UK customers pay with debit cards, e-wallets or bank-based methods. As at any licensed operator, expect identity checks before your first withdrawal, and use payment methods in your own name to avoid delays. We have not tested withdrawals and do not quote processing times.

Welcome offers and promotions

bwin usually runs a welcome offer for new sports customers and separate promotions for casino and poker players. The details vary from country to country, and some markets restrict bonuses heavily, so the offer shown to you may look quite different from the one advertised elsewhere.

Before opting in, read the full terms: minimum odds, wagering requirements, eligible markets and time limits decide what an offer is actually worth. You never have to take a bonus to open an account, and declining one keeps your balance free of extra conditions.

Customer support

The bwin help centre is detailed and available in several languages. It explains account set-up and verification, payments, how bets are settled, Cash Out and the rules of each product, and separate sets of terms for the UK, for the EU and EEA and for other territories make clear which company is responsible for your account.

What our research could not confirm is when and how you can reach a person. Contact channels and opening hours are not clearly set out on the pages we reviewed, which compares poorly with operators that publish round-the-clock chat or fixed hours. Log in and open the help section to see which contact options are offered in your country.

Safer gambling tools

Limits can be placed on deposits per day, week or month, and you can also take a time-out, cool off for a while or exclude yourself altogether. UK customers can also register with GAMSTOP, the national self-exclusion scheme, and the UK terms set a minimum self-exclusion period of six months.

The toolkit covers the essentials but is not unusually rich; we did not find product-specific controls such as stake caps on the international site. Setting a deposit limit when you register is a simple way to keep spending in check, and if gambling stops being fun, the organisations on our responsible gambling page can help.

bwin FAQ

Is bwin licensed?

Yes. The international site holds Malta Gaming Authority licence MGA/CRP/688/2019 and names ElectraWorks Europe Limited as the company offering it. In Great Britain bwin is a trading name of LC International Limited (Gambling Commission account 54743), bwin.de is on Germany's GGL whitelist and bwin.fr is approved by France's ANJ.

Who owns bwin?

Entain plc, the London-listed group that also owns Ladbrokes, Coral and partypoker. Entain, then called GVC Holdings, bought bwin.party digital entertainment in 2016.

Can I edit an accumulator after it is placed?

Often, yes. With Edit My Bet you can drop or add legs on eligible accumulators, and Cash Out may allow early settlement. Both depend on the market and your country.

Does bwin have an app?

It has several: separate sports, casino, live casino and poker apps for iOS and Android where local rules permit them. The mobile website also works without a download.

Is bwin available in my country?

bwin serves many European countries through bwin.com or national sites such as bwin.de and bwin.fr, but not every country. Only sign up where online betting is legal for you, and never try to get around a country block.

How can I limit my gambling at bwin?

Deposit limits, time-outs and self-exclusion. UK customers can also exclude themselves from all British-licensed gambling sites through GAMSTOP.

Our verdict on bwin

bwin remains a strong option for football-focused bettors in the countries where it holds a licence. The daily market range is large, the bet-editing tools are genuinely helpful for accumulator players, and casino and poker are there when you want a change from sport.

The weaker points concern transparency and the group behind the brand: Entain's enforcement history is significant, support details are vague and the experience varies by country. If you are comfortable with that, bwin is a credible, well-licensed sportsbook. Check which bwin company serves your market and set your limits from day one.
