William Hill at a glance: who it suits
William Hill opened as a bookmaker in Britain in 1934 and moved into digital betting in 1998. Unlike online-only brands, it also has a large network of shops on British high streets. Since 2022 it has been part of evoke plc, the former 888 Holdings, a London-listed group whose other brands include Mr Green, 888sport and 888casino. Online, William Hill offers a sportsbook with a strong horse racing tradition, the William Hill Vegas casino, a live casino, poker and bingo.
The brand is aimed squarely at regulated markets, above all the UK and Ireland, and it is not available in some large markets such as Germany. It suits racing fans and bettors focused on British and Irish sport who want an established name with comprehensive safer gambling controls. This review is based on licence registers, the operator's help centre (partly via archived copies, because the live site blocks automated access), group announcements and app listings. We have not opened an account.

Our rating
Very good: 8.6 / 10. Every operator is rated on the same five criteria and weights. The overall score is the weighted mean, rounded to one decimal. Read the method.
Licensing and trust
WHG (International) Limited operates williamhill.com for players in Britain and Northern Ireland as well as Jersey and Gibraltar. It holds UK Gambling Commission account 39225 (active when we checked in October 2026) and Gibraltar betting and gaming licences RGL 042 and RGL 034. The Republic of Ireland has its own operating company, WH Ireland Limited, with a remote betting licence from the GRAI, while most remaining markets are covered by William Hill Global PLC under a Maltese (MGA) licence, as the help centre explains.
The regulatory record is the main weakness. In March 2023 three William Hill businesses agreed to pay a then-record £19.2m to the UKGC over social responsibility and anti-money-laundering failures; WHG (International) Limited, which runs the website, accounted for £12.5m. In one example cited by the Commission, a customer opened a new account and spent £23,000 in 20 minutes. The owner said the failings dated from before its acquisition, and the Commission added licence conditions including an independent audit.
Ownership is also expected to change. evoke launched a strategic review after the UK announced a rise in remote gaming duty from 21% to 40%, effective April 2026, and it reported net debt of more than £1.86bn for 2025, according to iGaming Business. In June 2026 it agreed an all-share takeover by Bally's Intralot, which shareholders approved on 17 August 2026; court sanction and completion are expected in the fourth quarter of 2026 or the first quarter of 2027. Customer accounts and licences are held by the operating companies named above, but group strategy could shift after the deal.
Sportsbook and odds
On the football side you will find English and Scottish top-flight matches, European club competitions and Spain's LaLiga, and the app lists racing, Gaelic games, darts, rugby, tennis and golf among many other sports. In-line statistics and head-to-head records sit next to football fixtures, which helps if you like to check form before betting. The prominence of Gaelic games and Scottish football reflects a customer base concentrated in Britain and Ireland.
Horse racing is the traditional core. The sports app shows races live, and well-known racing figures contribute previews to the app and blog. For racing fans this combination of streams, depth and heritage is the main reason to choose William Hill over a newer brand.
The Bet Builder hub is where you put together several picks from one event, and Cash Out lets you settle many bets early when it is offered. Odds are left out of the rating, as we have not tested William Hill's prices against rivals. Outside racing and British and Irish sport the offer is solid but less distinctive than at the very largest international sportsbooks.
Casino and live casino
William Hill Vegas mixes Megaways and jackpot slots, titles you will only find there, and the usual roulette, baccarat and blackjack tables. Live dealers, poker and bingo round out the gaming side, all on the same account as the sportsbook.
For a sports-led brand this is a broad gaming offer. Casino-first players may still prefer specialist brands, but the convenience of one account across sport, casino, poker and bingo is real, and the safer gambling product blocks described below let you switch off individual products.
Website and mobile apps
WHG (International) Limited publishes two iOS apps. The William Hill Sports Betting app averaged about 4.7 out of 5 from nearly 200,000 UK App Store ratings when we checked in October 2026, with racing streams, Cash Out, Bet Builder and the account's safer gambling settings all built in. The William Hill Vegas Casino app averaged about 4.5.
Having sport and casino in separate apps keeps each one tidy but means switching if you use both. We could not verify Android availability from official pages, so Android users should check their local app store or use the mobile website, which carries the full product range.
Deposits and withdrawals
Pay by Bank and debit cards are among the methods covered in the help centre's payments section. If your card issuer supports Visa Direct, withdrawals back to the card can use it. Gambling on credit is banned in Great Britain, and William Hill may ask for ID before paying out.
We could not read a complete list of payment methods, limits or processing times, so this category scores lower than the rest. Check the cashier for your country before depositing, and stick to methods in your own name.
Welcome offers and promotions
William Hill generally runs introductory offers for new customers, often with separate versions for sport and for the Vegas casino. The specific offer, eligibility and conditions differ between the UK, Ireland and other markets and change over time, and existing customers see promotions that come and go with the sporting calendar.
Check the small print first, especially qualifying odds, deadlines and wagering rules, and treat promotions as a bonus to your plans, never a reason to raise your stakes.
Customer support
The William Hill support site is organised by topic (account, payments, gaming, betting rules and safer gambling), with extra areas for Irish customers and for shop customers. You can raise a request through an online form, and the help articles send you to live chat for some account changes, product blocks for example.
The help centre does not publish support opening hours, and we could not verify phone support. British customers whose complaint is not resolved can escalate it to an independent adjudicator, since UKGC rules require every licensee to offer alternative dispute resolution. Because the live help site blocks automated access, some details here come from archived copies from 2025 and 2026, so check the current version for your country.
Safer gambling tools
This is one of William Hill's strongest areas. According to the help centre, deposit limits can be set per day, week or month, and gaming sessions show time reminders, which are mandatory in the UK. You can take a break of up to 42 days online without contacting anyone, block casino, poker or bingo individually, self-exclude for between six months and five years, or close the account permanently.
For outside help, the safer gambling pages point to GambleAware, GamCare's National Gambling Helpline and Gambling Therapy, and UK customers can register with GAMSTOP. The 2023 UKGC case shows that tools alone are not enough, so use them proactively: set a deposit limit before your first deposit and block products you do not want to use.

Yes, in several places. The British site runs under UKGC account 39225 and Gibraltar licences RGL 042 and 034 (WHG (International) Limited), Ireland under a GRAI betting licence (WH Ireland Limited), and most other markets under an MGA licence (William Hill Global PLC).
Who owns William Hill?

Is William Hill available in Germany?
No. William Hill does not accept customers from Germany.
Does William Hill stream horse racing?
Yes. The sports app shows races live next to the betting markets, so you can follow a race as it happens.

Two, in fact: one for sports betting and one for the Vegas casino, both on Apple's App Store. The mobile website carries everything as well.
How can I limit my gambling at William Hill?

Our verdict on William Hill
William Hill is a natural fit for racing fans and bettors focused on British and Irish sport. Live race streams, a broad football offer with Bet Builder and Cash Out, a full casino with poker and bingo, and one of the most complete sets of safer gambling controls make it a well-rounded choice in the UK and Ireland.
Its record and its ownership are the caveats. The 2023 UKGC settlement was the largest the regulator had imposed at the time, and the parent group is carrying substantial debt while it waits for a takeover to complete. The licences themselves are strong, but keep an eye on developments, check the terms for your country and set your limits before you start.
